The Pin-Bhabha Pass Trek is classified as a moderate to difficult trek. While the early days from Kafnu to Kara feature gradual gradients across lush meadows, the crossing day over the pass (4,900 meters / 16,076 feet) to Mangrungse is physically demanding, involving steep ascents, potential snow patches, and a long day of trekking (8–9 hours). Prior high-altitude trekking experience or a high level of physical cardiovascular fitness is highly recommended.
The best window for this trek runs from mid-July to September. Since the trek crosses into the rain-shadow region of Spiti Valley, it is one of the few high-altitude Himalayan routes that remains accessible and incredibly scenic during the peak Indian monsoon months, when other trails are blocked by heavy rainfall.
Yes, the Pin-Bhabha crossover can be completed starting from either side. You can begin in the lush green valleys of Kafnu village (Kinnaur) and end in the barren landscapes of Mudh village (Spiti), or reverse the route. The standard 7-day itinerary starting from Kafnu is generally preferred for smoother altitude acclimatization.
